A giant mural designed by artist Gregori Saavedra has appeared at the gateway to King’s Cross. The vast 790m2 artwork is inspired by the transformation of King’s Cross and depicts some of the landmarks and features of the neighbourhood.
The mural covers the entire German Gymnasium – a Grade II listed building which is currently under refurbishment by restaurant group, D&D London. The artwork is one of the largest illustrations of its kind.
Originally designed in 1865 by Edward Gruning for the German Gymnastics Society, the Gym was the venue for the indoor events of the first Olympic Games in 1866. The iconic building is being transformed by D&D into a complex of restaurants including a 150-cover brasserie and glamorous bar with outdoor terraces.
