German Gymnasium,Kings Boulevard, London, N1C 4BU
A last minute decision to have brunch whilst walking the streets of kings cross resulted in us serendipitously choosing the German gymnasium and what a pleasant experience it was.
This former gym (see the mural that was there before it became this restaurant https://annasworldinpictures.com/2014/11/15/mural-at-gateway-to-kings-cross) has recently been turned into a restaurant and bar, with the website saying
Originally designed as the first purpose-built gym in England, this Grade II-listed building is conveniently situated in the heart of vibrant King’s Cross. German Gymnasium serves Mittel-European inspired dishes all day long, across two floors and out on its vast heated terraces.
The stylish decor keeps the venue open and airy with high ceilings and the upstairs seating around the edges.
The menu was just what we wanted (but no Bloody Mary! Such a shame 😀)
We chose GG Benedict (eggs benedict) and GG Arlington (salmon benedict)
Beautifully cooked eggs (one runny and one well done as requested) with crisp rosti and rich, glossy hollandaise.
Some issues with the order arriving late and my cappuccino being more like a flat white (middle class problems?), but I’ll forgive all that with the standard of food and beautiful building.
Next time, I would like to try a cocktail…as they sound fabulous!
