On a cold Friday evening we wound our way south to kings Road to sample some food at The Jam Tree, and warm our cockles with a couple of cocktails.

The decor of The Jam Tree is modern pop art mixed with elegant touches, such as chandeliers and comfy leather sofas. As soon as we walked in you could see (and hear) that this was a popular after work hangout where colleagues and friends alike were propping up the bar and telling tales of the week.

  
   
The menu is small but perfectly formed with some standard gastro fayre, such as a burger or a steak, mixed with some more adventurous dishes such as Goan pork vindaloo and game pie. The spice levels were high and this was, for me, very much a good thing. 

For starter we enjoyed 

Jumbo Buffalo chicken wings Roasted jumbo chicken wings smothered in franks hot sauce & served with a blue cheese dip
   

Sotong Manis Sticky battered squid with a sweet kecap manis sauce, chilli & fresh coriander.

  

Mains 

Aubergine & Coconut Curry (v)
Aubergine is braised in rich coconut milk with lemongrass, ginger & spices. Served with rice & a picked herb salad.  

Pulled pork burger Smoked spiced Boston butt, shredded & served on a brioche bun with chili mayo, onion relish, crisp gem leaves & thyme fries. I Added maple-glazed bacon too..

Ménage à Trois  Prosecco, St. Germain Elder ower Liquer, strawberries, mint served in a sling glass.

 

Wham Bam Thank You Jam Cariel Vanilla Vodka, Chambord & Passoa with raspberry jam & sour mix topped with popping candy.

The food is superb and extremely speedy. Some really great dishes and the chefs certainly seem to understand flavour combinations. A particular highlight was the Indonesian sweet kecap manis on the battered squid, which was an absolute treat and comes highly recommend!

The cocktails are worth a try and if you have a sweet tooth these are definitely for you, with most of their signature recipes containing jam! 

The vibe is great and the wall of cassette tapes in the toilet- inspired!
