Barrio Brixton Launch

Barrio Brixton, 30 Acre Lane, Brixton

Having been a Barrio Soho frequenter for some years, I was pleased as (Peruvian) punch to be invited to the Barrio Brixton launch.

Walking through the busy streets of Brixton and up to Barrio I could not wait to see what fun was awaiting me!

The decor of Barrio is colourful, vibrant and enough to put anyone in a good mood! The bright walls are made even brighter by the lighting design with spotlights and exposed bulbs that just make the colours pop.

We were seated right next to the bar and so we got to see the bar tenders at work, who worked non stop all night! Bravo guys!

The Che Guava Cocktail – the smoky vida mezcal gave this fruity cocktail a real kick. This was my absolute fave of the night!

All the cocktails were fab and each had their own special element, be it a paprika rim, half a kumquat or a spot of coriander! All perfectly designed and well balanced.

We were treated to some delicious Peruvian bites too.

The pork sliders were tiny little burgers of joy and served in cute little burger boxes, Barrio South really focus on presentation as well as taste.

Not being a fan of fishy type food I was pleasantly surprised with how tasty the ceviche was. Really meaty white fish served with a delicious creamy and zesty, and apparent aphrodisiac, aji amarillo leche de tigre (a Peruvian term for the spicy, citrussy marinade that cures the fish) which complemented the fish superbly.

The chicken Lima was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside and is maybe a South American nod to the fried chicken craze that London is currently experiencing. A very worthy opponent to any I have tasted.

Peruvian Mess- we had sunk a few cocktails by this point but I do remember these to be very delicious and just not enough! A bit like a posh deconstructed bannoffi pie-could have eaten one more at least!

Time flies when you’re having rum…

Thanks to Barrio, the amazing staff and Kapranos for letting me come along to this amazing event!

I loved the decor, food and cocktails were to die for (especially the che guava and chicken lima) – I can’t wait to return!
