Som Saa, 43a Commercial st, London
Well it’s been a long time coming but we finally managed to get along to Som Saa which has caused quite a stir on the London food scene. With respected critics hailing this one of the top openings of 2016, I could not wait for an excuse to book.
The vibe is minimalist and stylish on arrival with greenery dotted around, but the main thing that hits you is the smell of the food! Wafting over us as we ordered drinks in the bar area, we could not wait to eat all! We sat at a booth in the front of the restaurant, next to the bar which was lovely a bright and airy.
The menu is small and has a few distinct sections of salad, wok, soup, grill and curry. The idea is to order one or two from each and share on the table.
I was told of the whole Seabass and so we ordered that without hesitation! A full list of our order was
Gai Yaang, Chicken thigh with tamarind dipping sauce
Gaeng Panama neua kem, Panang curry of braised salted beef cheeks and Thai basilNahm dtok pla thort, Whole Seabass with roasted rice and isaan herbs
Gaeng hung lay, Burmese style curry of pork belly and shoulder with pickled garlic and fresh ginger
Yum makeua Yao,Grilled aubergine salad with egg and prawn floss
Mu yaang, grilled pork neck with a ‘nahm Jim’ dressing
Desert of kluey thort nahm dan beep, palm sugar ice cream with grilled banana
Great flavours and great service – can’t wait for the brunch menu to be released…
