The Good Egg, Stoke Newington

The good egg, Stoke Newington Church Street

On a sunny saturday in Stoke Newington we were on a mission to brunch at this new little gem on Church Street.

Seeing the queue did not deter us as we took off our coats and soaked in the autumn rays whilst watching the bemused (but funky Stokey) people walking by… Mutterings of “well it can’t be that good” and “who would queue for an egg?” were heard

It took around an hour to get through the door but we were happy with our counter table position in front of the small, but perfectly run, kitchen.

It was a good job we had set ourselves up for a lazy brunch as our order went missing… but it was definitely worth the wait – if you have a spare 2 hours to eat brunch 😉, I recommend it highly.

We had shakshuka (baked eggs with sausage and halloumi) and breakfast burrito

The shakshuka was beautifully sweet with the tomato and peppers and the preserved lemon yoghurt added a welcome cooling finish. You could have with halloumi or Merguez sausage, but we went for both! Why not??? The egg yolk was runny and when broken swirled beautifully into the tomatoey stew. With a fresh cholla roll too, it was the perfect meal for me.

The breakfast burrito was really light and delicately seasoned with a great mix between cooked and fresh filling.

We left feeling content and full and ready to take on the day
